MEET ROGER

About Roger Chapin

Roger Chapin is a lifelong Orlando resident, local businessman, and proven civic leader running for City Council to ensure District 3 has a strong, experienced voice at City Hall.  With decades of experience in both business and community service, Roger will ensure that District 3 receives the resources we deserve—safer streets, reliable city services, and smart economic development.

Roger has served on Orlando’s most important public boards, including the Municipal Planning Board, Downtown Development Board and Orlando Utilities Commission. He understands how City Hall works and can hit the ground running to advocate on behalf of District 3. Economically, Roger will support targeted investments in key corridors like Edgewater Drive, Corrine/Virginia, Ivanhoe Row, Colonial Drive, and North OBT. He will support our parks and natural resources to keep them clean, safe and accessible.

Roger has been involved in several nonprofit boards and initiatives over the years, including the Orlando Health Foundation, Cure Sanfilippo Foundation, Goodwill Industries, the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), Captains for Clean Water (CCW), as well as working on the capital campaign to build the Coalition for the Homeless’ new women and children’s center in Parramore.

Roger played a key role in the funding, development, and oversight of the Dr. Phillips Center in Downtown Orlando. In addition to helping secure key funding when he was Chairman of the Downtown Development Board and Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), he also served on the procurement committee and key oversight committee for the entire project, ensuring the $600 million project was delivered on time and on budget. Today, the Dr. Phillips Center is one of the most beautiful and successful performing arts centers in the world.

Additionally, Roger helped lead the community legislative initiative to bring the University of Central Florida (UCF) campus to Downtown Orlando’s Creative Village. Working closely with then–Senate President Andy Gardiner, Roger was the primary volunteer liaison between UCF, the City of Orlando, local supporters, and the Florida Senate, helping make the $700 million development a reality. Today, the UCF Downtown Campus generates millions of dollars and thousands of jobs annually for our community and, more importantly, serves as a key redevelopment for the City and District 3 (College Park).

Beyond his business and civic experience, Roger is committed to bringing civility and trust back to City Hall. He believes everyone—especially taxpayers—deserves to be treated with respect and transparency.

Roger lives in College Park with his wife of 27 years, Susan Chicone Chapin, who is also a lifelong District 3 resident. Their daughter Grey is a senior at the University of Florida. Orlando is home, and Roger is running to put residents first, always.
